TULIP LIFE CYCLE
In the Netherlands, there are hundreds of growers who grow more than 3,000 different varieties of tulips. Due to our ideal maritime climate, fertile soils and good knowledge and experience, we achieve the best results with tulip cultivation.
WHEN PLANTING THE BULBS?
The tulipbulbs and other bulbs of spring flowering varieties should be planted in autumn (Sept.-Dec.) before the (severe) frost. Then they start to make roots and prepare for wintertime. The flower in the bulb needs the cold to get a good length and bloom.
WHEN FLOWERING?
The flower bulbs bloom in Spring. The first species, galanthuses and eranthises, already bloom in January/February. The daffodils and hyacinths bloom in March and April. The different types of tulips bloom in March to May. The alliums from May to July.
Tulip 'Serano' blooms also as the first around mid March. The last blooming tulips bloom early May, such as 'Green Wave' and 'Danceline'.
WHEN HARVESTING THE BULBS?
After flowering, the flowers are removed and all energy turn into the bulb. The growers water the bulbs if necessary and hope for a good growth of the bulb. The flower bulbs have at least 2 months to grow. Our selected group of growers harvest the flower bulbs in July and August.
WHEN DO WE SEND YOU THE FLOWER BULBS?
After harvesting, the flower bulbs are dried and sorted in sizes 10/11, 11/12 and 12/+. The number represents the number of centimeters around the bulb. Tulip Store only ships the largest size 12/+ for the best result.
We will send you the packed flowerbulbs from the beginning of September to mid December.
If you order before September 1st., we will ship from the beginning of September. If you order after the beginning of September, we will send you the flowerbulbs within a few days.
